Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a chronic autoimmune neuromuscular disease characterized by muscle weakness and fatigue, particularly with repetitive movements. This happens when communication between nerves and muscles is affected because antibodies attack the neuromuscular junction, the area where nerve cells connect to the muscles they control.

In a healthy neuromuscular junction, nerve endings release a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine, which binds to receptors on muscle cells and triggers muscle contractions. However, in people with myasthenia gravis, antibodies block, alter, or destroy these acetylcholine receptors, causing muscle weakness and fatigue.

Common symptoms of myasthenia gravis include:

  1. Muscle weakness:
  2. Drooping eyelids (ptosis):
  3. Double vision (diplopia):
  4. Difficulty swallowing (dysphagia) and speaking
  5. Weakness in limb muscles:
